If you got a Marti report on your truck, I'm sure you could get the paint code from that. What color is it now? Checked the door jambs and under the hood for telltale signs of a color change? I see your in Michigan as I am too. Where you located?
Truck is pretty much flat faded black. No true color anywere I can't go by the dash because the truck was stolen one time in the past and I belive a completely different cab was installed. I'm pretty sure it was black but wanted to know if it ever had a 2 tone. Im in Allen park. Where you from?
Shelby Twp. If it has a different cab, where are you getting the vin# from. May not be the right vin# if different cab. Have you looked on the frame to see if vin# matches title.
Do you have the racetrack trim. Most 79's I have seen with racetrack trim were two tones. Maybe MikeoOoOo or numberdummy know a way to figure out your paint code without going thru Marti report but I sure don't. Are you trying to go back to the original color? I am in the process of a frame off on my 76 highboy. All pieces are epoxy primed. Am going to sand a lay a couple layers of 2k highbuild then block sand for final color. Can't make up my mind on color though. Stock was Hatteras Metallic Green but am leaning towards Highland Metallic Green.
The only sure way to tell what color it was from the factory is to send the VIN to Marti Marti Auto Works - Concourse Quality, Hobbyist Price and request a "Marti Report". It will have a copy of the warranty plate and also tell you what color(s) the truck was originally.
You could also order a reproduction warranty plate so your cab's VIN would match the title. They also have the paper door cert too.
Paint code is usually on drivers door tag. Vin won't tell you paint code.

The door tag (rating plate) is not a sticker. The certification label which was found on the door jamb of the cab was a sticker.
If you have the rating plate and the VIN matches the title and the frame then it is the correct tag for the truck. The paint code is on the rating plate.
