Brake light switch? Without a schematic I can't tell, but if the flashers work (which use the same filaments as the brake lights) then your bulbs and everything else common to both are in good shape.

Do your 4 way flashers work?
If not, make sure the switch is in the DOWN position, up is on and it kills the brake lights to everything BUT the high mounted stop light.. (3rd brake light)
Now if this cures the brake lights check out the flasher unit on the back side of the fuse panel (up under the dash), (the one on the front is for turn signals) there is a good chance the flasher unit has gone bad and the hazards (4 ways) have been turned on at some point.
