I am in the process of putting on a Monroe coil spring conversion kit. I am having trouble getting the rear axle to drop far enough to get the springs in. I have watched videos and found info in this forum.
My question is to any one who has done this swap, did you need to use a coil spring compressor to get the springs in?
Nothing I have seen or read says anything about needing to compress the springs.
I have a '99 expedition with four corner air system. Shocks are off and the stabilizer bar is free.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Are the jack stands under the frame so the rear can drop all the way down? What I've done in the past instead of compressing the spring is to jack one side up so the other side drops a little more. I've never done a conversion on one of these years' though. Good luck.
Just finished test drive with new suspension. Truck rides good and sits about 3" higher.
The instructions in the kit were not very informative. I looked in the shop manual on how to change the springs on an Expy that came with coil springs. I had to remove the driveline the track bar and the upper radius arms to get the axle to drop enough. It took longer than I expected and I am happy that it is finished.
Thanks for the replies I got all help is always appreciated.
