Friend of mine made a 79 4x4 crew cab by stretching the frame, but I'm a little leery of doing that, no matter how good your welding is. One local guy here had an ex forest service 74 (I think) crew cab 4x4 stepside, that was an odd looking truck.
Different body style but food for thought. Its sitting on a regular cab long bed frame, no body lift to clear frame hump. And it works hard as a guide truck. Has a box mounted winch for loading game. Been many a moose, deer, bear, elk etc in the back.
Dont let the naysayers get to you, some people just like to hang out here and shoot down everyones ideas with no real knowledge of how to do anything. I have a 91 crew cab, a nice 83 front clip, and lots of wild ideas on what to do with it. One day I will get to it and it will be going on to a reg cab or ext cab long bed frame.
