I just changed my air filter (I run either a Fram Tough Guard or a Purolator Pure One drop in)
May be I just never noticed before but I had some dirty wetness on the top inside edges of the box itself (under the filter) --I HAVE put a protectant on the vinyl panel between the grille and core support which is the onloy thing I can think of that could possibly cause this....it wasn't sopping wet, but wet none the less and obviously dirt had stuck to it.
I cleaned all it off and made the inside hospital clean, put in a fresh filter...
There is a reason that most of us get rid of the factory air box on these trucks and you just found it. It is notoriously leaky. The Ford AIS or the Kwik 6637 mod should be in your immediate future.
I certainly get what you are saying but the ugly stuff is on the bottom of the filter and the inner under side of the box, the top of the filter looks brand new as does the intake hose, and my turbo....it doesn't appear that any of the ugliness has gotten through the filter which I have run for about 24k miles now.......
I AM going to keep an eye on this by removing the filter once a month to see if the wetness and dirt are returning.
Sorry guys, I'm not a fan of the 6637 setup, I know most use it, but I really don't want to hear all the rushing of the air and frankly I think its kind of crude looking-PLEASE NO OFFENSE, to each their own.
Sounds like you got a little moisture in your intake. ANd I understand where you're coming from, I went back to stock after running the 6637 for years.
I don't know about the moisture. But I didn't like the noise from the 6637. I didn't hear "air" or "breathing"..I heard noise and drone, but I do like the way it looked. As far as the stock air box just keep check on the three tabs on the fender side that holds the lid in place. I also use a little grease on the lid to ensure a good seal. JMHO..Phil
Thanks guys! Like I say the dirty moisture as I call it is in the box BEFORE the filter and according to Blackstone they always say that my AIR FILTER is doing its job, it was just 1 time they said there "could" be problems-(this is when I couldn't find the Fram TOUGH GUARD or the Purolator PURE ONE and put in a standard paper filter)
