Question How does octane work?

I have a Diablo Delta chip ordered that I expect to come in any day now (haven't gotten a shipping notice, but don't know if I should expect one). As we all know, these chips require 91 or better octane. So, if I have 1/4 tank of 87 and fill it up with 93, will I then have an effective 91.5 octane - as in average [((93 * 3) + 87)/4=91.5] or will it not mix and leave me with 87 1/4 of the time and 93 3/4 of the time. It would make sense to me that it should combine like octane boosters, but I don't want to tear anything up.

Thanx in advance,
Doug

How does octane work?

My experience is that this doesn't work. My wife accidently put in a tank of 87 octane in our truck and I waited until it was down to 1/4 tank, filled it with 93 and turned the chip back to the performance mode. Still pinged. Octane booster helped but not much. The best octane booster you can buy is a bottle of ethanol alcohol. Off the shelf octane boosters will make claims like "raises octane up to 3 points." What they are really saying is "raise octane up to 0.3", not "3.0". Some are honest about it and they put it on the bottle in fine print, most won't even do that.

Get it down to an 1/8th tank first and you'll be fine.
