I have an 04' Fx4 and I'm wanting to pull a car trailer with a 3/4 ton 72' chevy about 280 miles. My door sticker shows a ridiculous 3800lbs or something like that. That worries me a little but the other numbers I see guys throwing around are quite a bit higher. My truck has a receiver hitch and is 4x4 obviously. Anybody know why the door sticker is low?

Yeah something's off. With the 5.4 max tow is in the 9000 lb range. I tow a 6500lb camper with my 05 5.4 with no issues.
My only guess is that 3800 lbs is how much each of the stock e rated tires hold at max psi.

Lol, I was looking at it wrong. I was looking at the front and rear ratings. It shows a 7200lb rating so hopefully with wife, myself, two daughters, daughters boyfriend, gear, tools, etc... we will be ok. I'm pulling an old steel dual axle car trailer and I have no idea how much it weighs. The truck should be in the 14-15k range total right?

I'm guessing you have the 3.73 gears but you'll be fine for that length of trip. Don't expect to set speed records but you'll be able to go the speed limit. Turn o/d off and the truck will pull fine.
Just made it back. Truck pulled great. Actually got close to 12mpg at about 60mph and a little help from the wind. I'll post a pic of the rig in a bit...
