As some of you know, i will be doing some modifications to my truck and need some input on either to replace certain parts , to make her dependable, or wait till they broke.
For start i have 250k mls on here and will definately do the following:
- auto to manual swap
- downpipe and 4 inch exhaust. (not sure if with or without muffler)
- new injectors (baby swamps)
- electric fuel pump with dual filter (already eliminated fuel bowl)
- re-seal turbo
- change ebpv to exhaust brake.
and I will do some suspension repair, brakes/ bodymounts
Now what i do not know is if i need to buy me the auto enginuity software or just a aero-force gauge.
What remaining sensors / items would you guys recommend to replace? (before i waste funds on interior upgrade )
I do not want to run drag strip , but want to be able to go cross country trip with a small camper.
I do plan on taking her apart in 2 weeks and hope to have all parts on hand.
My only suggestion would be to go with Jim at Rosewood Diesel. He offers great prices on 7.3 injectors and his expertise on everything to do with 7.3 injectors is immense. Outside of that looks like a great list.

I was actually looking at baby swamp injectors due to some reviews I read and a much longer warranty . Anybody using those on here ?
I think Glenn ran baby swamps in his old truck and liked them alright.
AE or a scangauge would work fine, its all what you want. If you want the best and to use a laptop, willing to spend a little more, buy AE. The scangauge works just fine for me, and is always on means its in the truck. It's all in what you want.
I'm not a big fan of the ebpv brake, I'd just eliminate it, but that's up to you.
My Aeroforce would quit working after about two hours into a drive. I tried it powered by ignition and by the OBD plug. Failed both ways. Aeroforce could not explain why. I sold it. I now have AE and love it, great tool.
It takes alot of time and money to go through everything, but when you get done you know everything is right and you dont have to worry what will break next. If the trany is still good, you can sell it and put the money towards your swap.

i have a set of baby swamps in my truck, cant complain with them, runs good and has alot more power. need to find time to toss my truck on the dyno at work and see what they put it to
Thanks for all the info so far. Looks like I might be going with the a&e software . As for replacing parts, I know it is expensive , but I was looking for some specifics as to what I might need to do , to prevent any headaches or breakdowns, ie I know my hpop is old but it appears to produce good pressure as shown on the last ae scan.should it be rebuild anyway ? Any kits for that ? Any other items that might need to be adressed while I'm at it? Thanks again
I have alot of 1996 parts on my truck that concern me when I think about long trips/pulls also. I have read several posts on FTE about what guys haul with them in extra parts... just in case. It is substantial in some cases LOL.
I am concerned about my:
Vacuum pump
Oil cooler (body tube is very rusty)
Belt tensioner
Other fixed pully/wheels
Over some time I have proactively started buying some of these replacement parts like the tensioner for example. I have a box in the bed that I keep the new parts as well as parts I have replaced like my upper rad hose and serp belt for back ups. So under the hood, you never know but those are some of the things I have picked up from other posts.
You can't rebuild your hpop. Joey can, and would make it bigger. If its building enough pressure, it's probably ok.
I carry a lot of spare parts. I replaced any and all hoses, they were 16yrs old you know. Replaced quite a few sensors and carry the old spares. All orings in the motor except the front two oil rail plugs have been replaced. Spares are carried too. You get where I'm going here..

Which sensors other than cam do you recommend changing
Cam sensor is the only one you really need a spare for.
IPR can leave you stranded IF it sticks, so I put a new one of those in too, along with an icp. I'm not gonna recommend you buy one if your truck runs ok as they aren't real cheap.
Thanks guys . This is some good info . I just replaced my CPS . So I wait a little before I buy another one . Now .. Does anybody has a good suggestion as to where to buy a complete exhaust except from eBay ? I think I like to go with a new free flow muffler as part of the system as well as a new exhaust tip. Thanks
I got mine from Summit. A lot of guys get theirs from Riff Raff.
do you have a part number, as to which one you have and also do you run with or without rear muffler..
Im not sure, if a rear muffler is worth it? also any idea on a tip ?
