I have been having some ignition switch problems that I think I have fixed on my 1986 F250 6.9 IDI, but I am just wondering what is involved in jumping the starter solenoid manually and where is it located if I can't get the key into the start position, if I need to get out of a pinch?
Jumper wire from the battery positive to the FSS on the injection pump (if your ignition switch won't power it in the 'on' position). You most likely have the regular solenoid on the passenger side fender; You can jump the starter using a screwdriver from the big post on the solenoid that the + battery cable is on (the one that goes to the battery, not to the starter) to the closest small terminal.
Starter relay (solenoid) is on the pass side fender. It has 2 big terminals and 1 small. Pull the wire off of the small one, it is red with a blue stripe. One of the big terminals goes to the battery, jump from that one to the stud on the relay that the red/blue wire was on with a screwdriver, nail, etc.
