I have a 1988 F-150 4x4 with AOD and 5.0. I have replaced the battery cables, selenoid, starter, ignition switch, and battery now. I do not have power to anything! The headlights won't come on, no bells, no power locks, no dome light. Not a single electron flowing anywhere. I can jump the selenoid and get the starter to turn, but turning the key gets nothing. Any ideas?
Yes, Fender mounted selenoid. Ignition switch broke recently. Cables needed replaced. Starter quit several months ago. Son broke connector on old selenoid. The most recent fix was the ignition switch. I had a shop fix that and it ran fine until I got it home. It did not get driven for awhile and the old battery died. Multiple reasons for the replacements. I keep thinking I just connected something incorrectly, but check as I might it all appears to be correct.
I am pretty sure it is grounded, but will recheck. I am sure the ignition switch is not the issue as it ran and worked fine. I am thinking I have a chassis ground issue somewhere. However, I am not but a novice mechanic so am not sure how to chase that issue.
Are you sure you have the cables attached correctly to the solenoid? If I remember correctly ther are 3 cables that attach to the larger terminal that is farthest from the battery( the positive battery cable and 2 others). There is just one cable, the one that goes down to the starter, attached to the larger terminal closest to the battery. Then of course there is the one small wire terminal that just slides on that activates the starter, but that one wouldn't stop the headlights and other accessories from working.
