Suggestions on paint damage

Hey everyone. Hope you're all enjoying our wonderful summer fun. I have an inquiry about what I should do for a temporary fix on my truck concerning paint damage. I posted a few weeks back about gas expansion causing a boatload of gas to force itself out of my tank and down the side of my truck, leaving a strip of destroyed point in its wake. It's down to the metal. I have done some some light sanding, but not too much. Is there a quick fix anyone can suggest to protect the metal without actually redoing the paint in that area just yet?

Hey Sparky, best to wet sand using about 220 grit wet dry paper and then prime with a rattle can of etching primer and then top using a primer-sealer, that will give you some protection from rust. Dupli-color spray cans available at autozone will have what you need for about 20 bucks. hope that helps.
