Good evening new to this site an ford trucks in general so ill try to be quick an snappy.
Have a 06 navigator purchased about 2 months ago had 102k on it now at 108k.
Issue: sometimes when driving the overdrive light blinks on an off from the Information digital cluster on the bottom righ on the speedometer. Most times I have no shifting problems it just will blink intermittently. Sometimes it engages the overdrive an then will kick into overdrive then come out of it. If I drive with overdrive off it rides fine. *special note it really does it when im braking it will flash but downshift fine* weird.
Have a buddy that does mechanical work an he ran an scan tool *even though no check engine light or anything else is on* an he says its saying Its the overdrive relay or control module. Not sure if thats it or if its something more sinister. Really hoping I dont need a tranny I just ditched my acura because of that problem after replacing it once an figured id go to all american. Any advice would help thanks a million guys an girls for all that you do to help diagnose issues.
I'm guessing that light comes on at about 60 or 70mph? theres a snap ring that retains the OD valve it seems to be a common problem to break. A lot of scuttlebutt will say the ring gets pulled into your torque converter and ur up Poop creek. However! there is nay sayers myself included. Search this site for the J-mod and you should be back in business! good luck.
Thanks for the reply wastingas, well im at the transmission shop now mechanic hooked up scan tool took it for a drive an says that the tranny shifts beautifully until the overdrive light blinks an throws it into a tizzy. He feels it may be the software or ECM or something. Says hes got the ford software an will update it to see if that fixes it.
I will definitely keep you posted in what the turn of events may be I know a lot of people come on these forums to look for a solution so I can pay it forward I definitely will.
Next step today is changing the dreaded plugs got my lisle tool just super nervous still deciding if I want to do it myself or pay a guy I know who works on cars $175 to do it. Will keep you guys posted.
