I have a 1994 F150 with the 5.0 engine. While driving in San Diego the overdrive button and indicator function normally. I have taken the truck to Las Vegas two time and at some point the overdrive off indicator will start to flash. The overdrive button still seems to operate correctly. Upon returning to San Diego and driving for a couple of days the indicator stops blinking. I was wondering if this is heat related since it never happens during milder temps, only in the desert.
You mean its not normal????
Before I got my first F150 I used to drive ambulances and
they were all Fords. About 75% (maybe more) of the rigs I drove
had the flashing OD light. The tranny worked fine. I never payed
any attention to it. As did every other driver.... Now that I have a 92 F150 I see the same thing. I thought this was a normal thing for Fords when they were getting old....WEIRD

The OD light blinking is an error code.
Since it stopped after three heat cycles that means it was a soft code (less major). If it stayed on that would be a hard code.
Either way the cause should be looked into. At a minimum pull the codes and see which ones they are.
I would like to thank everyone who replied to my problem. I appreciate your help. The OD light has not flashed since I first posted the problem. Again thank you.
My 93 150 over drive light flashed when i had the button pushed so it was out of overdrive. Even sitting in the garage parked you could push the button to take it out of over drive and it would act like it was flashing a code. I took it to a dealer and he pulled the codes and there were none. He then put in a new overdrive button and light assembly switch, about $16, and the problem went away. There was a broken filiment in the bulb making it glow then not glow acting like it was flashing a code.
This happened to mine once upon and a time. yes, replacing the switch at the end of the stalk fixed the problem. Nothing major, no transmission codes, just a stupid switch. it just blinked randomly, and sometimes the button didn't work, and after that it's been great, for about 3 years now.
