Any one know how to change the carrier bearing on a 85 f-150 subercab longbox???? Started to change the u joints and the bearing fell out of the support and was burned up slightly. Only thing is i cant figure out hot to get the old one off of the driveshaft to put the new one on.
Thanks Ben
You need to take it to a driveline shop. Sorry, but that is the nature of this beast.
See, from what I was told, normal shop presses are not long enough to press the new one on and you need a special holder for it. It shouldn't be more than $45 to press it off and put your new one. I just had mine done and it was $65 with the bearing.
This will show you how to do it yourself. I just remembered it was here, but someone else here was having trouble doing it themselves and gave up and took it to a shop.
I was able to get it changed without going to a driveline shop. I was able to put the new one on witha scrap piece of round pipe and a hammer. probably wasnt the best way to do it but it got the job done. If u have a standard cab u prolly dont have one to worrie about changeing lucky for you. I used a chisle to pound the old one off btw.
