Hi guys, well it runs... I just can't get the power valves to seal. I ordered 3 from Charlie Price's shop, they machine the new style power valves down so they fit the 94's. I've got a hand full of thick nylon gaskets from them as well and it leaks a lot almost immediately.
I pulled the carb just now, removed base, installed brand new PV and gasket, 15 sec later it's seeping out around the gasket and seems to be coming thro the PV.
The carb is a reman by a highly recommended FTE member so I'm stuck. No clue why they won't seal.
Try making a support for the bowl section using 2 - 3" long bolts. With the throttle section off, the PV installed, add some gas to the bowl. Watch carefully to see where the gas is leaking. Your bowl section may be cracked, or have a hole in it.
I had a bad PV from Vintage. The crimp on the cover over the diaphragm was done wrong, the diaphragm cover wasn't being held all the way around, and it leaked.
I've tried three. Everytime it seems to just begin leaking from around the gasket, and then appears to be coming thro the center of the PV also, at least on this one it is... WHAT DO I DO ALBUQ-F1 haha
Examine the surface where the gasket seats and is supposed to seal. I found a surface in a 94 carb that had etched over the many years. A bit of precision work on the sealing surface with a stone and no more leaks. It took examination with a magnifying glass to see the etching.
Edit: That was a surface where the jet access screw goes into the bowl. I can see where the power valve surface could have the same problem.
I went back and re read where it is a remanufactured unit. I would think that if the surface is etched, any remanufacturer would be willing to replacing the carb. In any remanufacturing process that should have been found and rectified. If the remanufacturer of the carb does not want to help, you will have to fabricate something to polish the surface. Perhaps a wooden dowel rod cut square with a piece of fine sand paper glued onto the end. Work it by hand and go slow. Perhaps a surfacing stone for a valve seat. Perhaps others will see this and offer suggestions. JMO, I would contact the seller and let him know what I found before I attempted any repair to the unit. Wish you luck and we would like to know how this comes out.
