Truck dies while driving

Lately I'll be driving my truck around (both in town and on the freeway and when it gets warm under the hood (temp gauge between the "R" and the "M" in NORMAL), the engine just shuts off like I turned off the key. The truck then does not like to be started back up again and I have to wait until it is completely cool to restart it.

First I replaced the fuel pump because I didn't smell any gas in the carb after trying several times to restart it. Then I replaced the ignition module and coil because I thought I may have had a loss of spark. When I replaced the furl pump, I also found the fuel pump eccentric had fallen off. I tightened that back down and put everything back together. The timing chain looks good and has been replaced before.

I also occassionally have issues starting it when it is warm. It will have ha hard time starting and sound like the starter is only moving in half turn increments. I figured that the timing must have somehow gotten messed up so I retimed it correctly and that fixed my issue...for a few days. Now I can barely shut it off to put gas in and restart it...why?

Finally I have one more issue. Today while I was driving down the freeway I was doing 70 mph and it was running pretty well. However when I went to step on the gas a bit more (pedal almost to the floor) to try and shift lanes, the whole truck bogged for a split second, then revved really high like it down shifted and got stuck in second gear, then began just coasting with no transmission or power to the wheels. The engine was still running. Just before the truck came to rest the engine cut out and died and wouldn't restart. 3 hours later I had someone take a look at it and it started up without an issue and drove home. What was that all about?

I have now re tuned the carb and it seems fine. It still boils a bit of gas as does the fuel lines, but I wouldn't think that is what's causing my issues is it??

At the same time with all these issues I should also add that I have an intermittent missfire while driving. I'm also not sure why that is either. Sometimes it goes away sometimes not. It is even worse when wet. Could that be the spark plugs? They appear to be newer and in decent condition. Or could it be the distributor even though it looks like its already been replaced?

Sounds like the classic symptom of your ignition module giving up the ghost. Get a new one from NAPA and you should be good to go. Might even help that random miss. Check your plug wires and the ground straps between the cab and the engine too. (Mine has one on the rear of the intake and it goes to the firewall).

Quit throwing parts at it and actually diagnose it. The chimp in your avatar could do what you're doing now.

Have you checked to make sure your choke is adjusted properly? A stuck closed choke can cause problems.

If you have gas boiling in your fuel system, you may very well be dealing with vapor-lock.

When it dies does it sound like it's being choked, does it sound like when you let the clutch out on a standard to fast and it dies?

Everything is adjusted properly. The choke is also new. When it dies, it sounds like you turn the key off. That's it. Maybe choked out but I don't think it is being choked out at all seeing as how the choke is working. The ignition module is new and the truck does the same thing with the new and old modules. Sounds like it might be a distributor shutting off the spark.
