electric oil pump
I have an odd little project I'm doing some pre-research on. My truck leaks oil or possibly burns oil. It definitely leaks and I think it's a rear main leak and while I'm all about repairing things right the first time, I'm not repairing it any time soon as this requires an engine pull or trans pull. Down the road I want to do a trans swap so I'm going to wait.
Anyway, in the meantime I'm continually having to top off my motor oil. I came up with a lazy mans way to do so. I want to install a resevoir, electric pump and a hose into the crankcase. This way if I need to top it off, I can just push a button to active the pump and top it off without having to theoretically open the hood. The issue I'm "running into" is what I can use to pump motor oil without burning out a pump. I have a cheapy electric fuel pump. Rated for gasoline or diesel fuel I believe it'll be fine for pumping motor oil however will it successfully pump motor oil or will the viscosity be too much? Anyone know of a cheapy electric oil pump or do you think the fuel pump will work? I know this sounds a little crazy but I hate having to constantly pour oil into the crankcase. I'm short, my truck is higher off the ground than a car and with the engine kind of set back I'm always having to climb up on the bumper and have actually slid off several times hurting myself. I think for a few $$$ in parts I can easily do this so I only have to check the dip-stick, hit the pump button and be done.
Thanks,
