I just bought an '88 B2 that needs an oil pump. (2.9l, 4WD) I don't do much mechanical stuff myself, but usually just hire it out to friends.
Anyway, My buddy Doug originally thought he'd be able to just take the motor loose from the mounts, and jack it up a might to reach everything, but he's been running into trouble left and right, and now thinks he'll have to pull the whole motor to get to it.
Does anyone have any tips or shortcuts to make it easier?
Glad to be here, and I'll doubtless have a lot more questions in the coming months! THANKS!
In the time I've been on these boards, I don't think I've seen a good alternative mentioned. The engine almost has to come out to get the oil pan off so yo can get at the oil pump. If someone has one I hope they'll speak up.
Unfortunately the only easy way to get at the oil pump is to pull the motor. I faught for hours trying to get the torx wrench in there to get the bolts out..the one i was able to but the other wouldn't budge..then there is no room to get the old pump out..
