turn signal indicator

I was reading a thread about replacing the turn signal indicator light on a 67-72 truck. I can not find it now. Maybe it was on another forum....

My right TS indicator does not work. To access the light better I took out the 8 screws that hold the dash in place. I took out the bulb holder with a 1/4 turn. The bulb looked bad. I went to the parts store to get another. I put it in the holder and put it in place in the dash panel. It did not light up when I put on the turn signal. I put it on the left indicator and it worked. I put the bulb and holder that was on the left into the right place and it did not work.

So: both bulbs work, both holders apparently work. But the right indicator does not work. I read on the other thread that the circuit board is very fragile. Apparently, the bulb is not getting current.

What can I do? thanks.

Abe, Do you have a circuit tester or Ohm meter? 45 years of hot & cold could have created a hairline fracture that can be a head scratcher.

Is the copper ribbon at the circuit board connector for that turn signal indicator OK? You'll have to remove the big plug to check it. If the ribbon that provides power to the TS indicator is loose you can re-glue it to the circuit board with some Super Glue.

If you trace the two paths from the plug to the TS indicator bulb, the ground will also go to other bulbs but the power will go to just the indicator bulb.

By the big plug do you mean the wiring harness plug? What about the speedo cable? Or is there enough play in the cable to pull it out far enough?

Super glue to hold down the copper ribbon, huh?

John, I do have a circuit tester and an ohm meter. Where would I put the 2 contacts?

The "big plug" is a 2.5" or 3" connector on the back side of the gauge cluster. It connects the wiring harness to the circuit board. Squeeze the tabs on the ends firmly and be gentle with it.

Yes, you'll want to disconnect the speedometer cable to remove the gauge cluster.
