I have a 1969 F100 with a 300 I6 and a C4 automatic. I also have a 1973 F100 with a 360 V8 and what I'm assuming is also a C4 automatic.
I want to swap the engines in the two, AKA build the 360 into a nice 390 and throw it in the '69 (which is a nicer truck in every aspect compared to the '73 I have - pictures on profile). Are the bell housings the same, or would I need to swap the transmissions as well? I'm currently rebuilding the '69's tranny with a bit of a performance kit and would like to keep it.

Bell housing: M/T / Converter housing: A/T
C4 has a converter housing, C6 converter housing is made as part of the transmission case.
Every other source I see claims it to be the C4. I was under the impression that the C6 is for the 250 and up.
My pan is square.
Your 1969 F100 300 I-6 has a C4, as it was the only A/T available. Your 1973 F100 360 has a C6, as it was the only A/T available.
C4's not used with FE engines. C6 introduced in 1968 F100/350 360/390. Both engines were cancelled at the end of the 1976 model run.
But, if the '73's engine was swapped from a 1965/67 F100/350 that came with a 352, the only A/T available was M/X Cruise-O-Matic, also installed in 1965/72 F350 300 I-6.

I said my '73 had what I assumed, as in there's an area of uncertainty, that it had a C4, which I'm also assuming you read since you quoted that very sentence. I just went out to look at both trucks, and the '73 has a C6. I suppose I answered my own original question.
