I have a 1969 F100 with a 300 I6 and a C4 automatic. I also have a 1973 F100 with a 360 V8 and what I'm assuming is also a C4 automatic.
I want to swap the engines in the two, AKA build the 360 into a nice 390 and throw it in the '69 (which is a nicer truck in every aspect compared to the '73 I have - pictures on profile). Are the bell housings the same, or would I need to swap the transmissions as well? I'm currently rebuilding the '69's tranny with a bit of a performance kit and would like to keep it.
Trozei, the 360 is of the FE engine family (352, 360, 360, 410, 427, 428) which has it's own bellhousing pattern for its transmissions like your C-6. Your 300 uses the small block V-8 pattern (221, 260, 289, 302, 351W, etc) so your 300 C-4 can't be used behind your FE 360 engine.
Thanks for the info! I just discovered though that my 360 is mated to a C6 and the 300 a C4. I wouldn't want a built 390 mated to a C4 now that I think about it, so even if it would've worked, I wouldn't want to do it.
