PLEASE explain! Experience with leveling Kit AND SS
Also, how have your experiences been with the dual steering stabilizers on a leveled truck?
I recently leveled my truck with a 2.5" procomp kit and was planning on installing a Rancho dual steering stabilizer kit this weekend. I'm having second thoughts because of some horror stories I've read on here.
Can everyone with a similar setup please provide their feedback on the setup?
I'd really like to know the following:
1.Year of Truck: (2011 for me)
2.How long has it been leveled?: (4 days for me)
3.Do you have a Steering Stabilizer? if so, which one? (Ordered the Rancho)
4. Have had ANY negative side effects?: (Suspension wear and tear, voiding of warranty)
5. If so, how long before you noticed it?
6. Did you end up with warranty issues?
2.How long has it been leveled?: 4k miles or probably 6 months? its been a while
3.Do you have a Steering Stabilizer? no, completely unnecessary
4. Have had ANY negative side effects?: (Suspension wear and tear, voiding of warranty) no
5. If so, how long before you noticed it? n/a
6. Did you end up with warranty issues? no
I installed a 2" leveling kit from ebay lol and a bd diesel performance adjustable track bar. I run 35x1250 m/t tires. I had bilstein 5100 shocks at first and then upgraded to the 5160s. I didnt notice any dramatic change in handling in a negative way and my steering is perfect. Before the trackbar my axle was shifted out 1/2" but that was corrected. Unless your handling is affected negatively I'd skip the ss. We already have a single shock ss, if anything you can try to replace that shock, but its really not necessary on a leveled truck.
2. ReadyLift Stage 2 - 2.5" kit on for 3 years. 70,000 miles
3. Bilstein 5100 stabilizer (last 15,000 miles)
4. No side effects or wear.
Need to keep about 10 to 15 lbs in my airbags to keep the headlights out of people's eyes with level kit. Stock steering stabilizer is weak but better than I had on my '05 F250. Changed it out for the Bilstein and its an improvement. The stock stabilizers don't last on these heavy trucks. If you have low miles the change isn't necessary with just a leveling kit.
Until it wears out, and it will.
The dual stabilizer helps compensate for the larger tires and any weaknesses in front end parts/bushings. Some say they just mask bigger problems but in the end, they reduce or eliminate wobble. Good enough for me.
I was initially concerned for the power steering pump having extra work to do with the stabilizers. It's still on my mind but I can't find a single person who has reported pump issues as a result of stabilizers. No warranty issues as I never had it in for a warranty claim (except for trans solenoids and a TCM/PCM re-program).
40k miles since June 2010.
