I HAVE A 2001 FORD EXPLORER 5.0 THAT HAS A RATTLING NOISE IN ENGINE. I THOUGHT IT SOUNDED LIKE A PULLY SO I REPLACED THE IDLER PULLY TO NO AVAIL. AFTER TRYING TO PINPOINT THE NOISE I TOTALLY REMOVED THE SERPENTINE BELT AND THE NOISE IS STILL THERE. IT SOUNDS LIKE A RATTLEING NOISE POSSIBLY BY THE TIMING CHAIN COVER. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

 

HDRK2001--see my post on page 5--HELP engine noise--I don't know if this is the same but sounds close, I would describe mine as more of a WHINE not really that metallic in nature; haven't gotten any response; it just sounds expensive; I'm going to take a serious look at the fan clutch this weekend---let me know how you progress
