Headlamps On Chime

My truck doesn't have a buzzer/head light on chime. I'm sure this was a plug in module of sorts and perhaps a previous owner removed it?

Well regardless, I need to make one as I'm deathly afraid one of these rainy summer days or dusky summer nights I'm going to forget and end up with a dead battery. I know how to wire one myself using a relay (so it chimes only when the key is off) however I don't know where to get a chime. I can find a chime at Radio Shack for a few bucks but I'd prefer something that sounds like it belongs on the truck perhaps a chime module from a mid-90's f-truck. First off is this something that can be done? Perhaps it's just plug and play? I'm not worried about the key in ignition or seat belt buzzer more so the headlamps on.

Anyway, just thought i'd see what kind of input ya'll might have

Go to the salvage and pull the whole lighting convenience package off of another truck of this era. It includes the chime and lights under the dash by the kick panels, on in the glovebox, and one in the ash tray. Plugs right in.

My 83 is a buzzer instead of a chime.

I have a chime, in fact, I inadvertently plugged it back in when I had my dash out and apart.

In my '87 it's up under the dash by the back of the ash tray.
If your truck came w/ one The PO probably just unplugged it and it is still there.
Look for a plug just hanging out.

On the 80 - 86 I think it is further right, above the glove box. Pull the glove box liner or the dash cover.

Here is a thread on the "Seatbelt/Ignition key/Headlights on" buzzer.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...-screw-up.html

Looks like the switch with the "Headlight On" buzzer is a Motorcraft SW1822, and is available at Amazon.com.

I hope that helps.

I use the radio shack buzzer. It works. The Ford chimes can be a piece of junk and quit working in my experience with them. You might have to go through a few at the yard till you get one that works.
