Hi guys, haven't been here in awhile.
I took the 92 7.3 in for it's 2 year e test and and it barely passed.
When they revved it to max governor it blew huge clouds of white smoke, took 6 tries to get it to pass. 2 years ago it passed below factory spec.
Still seems to drive the same but misses at high RPM in park, so whats going on?
My son says he has noticed the occasional puff of white on the highway.
Just turned 100,000 km or 62,000 miles.
I know the advance mechanism in the DB pump as used on the GM 6.2 would break over time, and without the advance at higher rpms they would do just what it sounds like yours is doing.
Does sound IP related. mine has 245k miles on it and passed under half the spec. Guy said it was the cleanest one hes ever tested. Granted its had red fuel and addative ALL its life.
That's what the guy that did the e test said, he see's this on low mileage older trucks.
He owns a school bus company and they ran IH for years.
So, is it a whole new pump or a repair?
yeah check around locally or online.they can reman your old pump for you,or you can simply return yours for a core.
plan on a set of injectors and have the timing adjusted once you get the fuel screw set.
you really need a full tune. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...p-ratings.html
if there is a local diesel shop in your area, check with them for a reputable pump/injector rebuilding service.
i had one 2 miles away i used for the past 30 years. they just sold to fleet source a few months ago, i am waiting to hear if things changed over there, because most of the staff has been replaced.
There's an IH heavy truck shop but they just look at me like a deer in the headlights when I talk to them.
This really isn't a good area for diesel repair, that's what worry's me.
I tried putting some diesel kleen in and ran it on the highway for an hour but no change.
I suspect it may be why I've had a higher than usual engine temp as well, engines working too hard at highway speed.
Pretty ugly miss at high rpm, if you try to hold the throttle steady at say 2500 it goes up and down 500-800 rpm.
Starts perfect as always, no oil consumption, but have noticed a drop in mileage.
my 88 did the same thing. the pump was fine until it got up around 2500.
on that rebuild it was just a new governor and good to go.
they would redo it for me for $250 complete rebuild, or $100 for just the test and governor replace.
i want to say injectors rebuilds were $15 each. but it has been around 8 years since i had a set done.
