i hope someone can point me in the right direction. my cruise started acting up (not always comming on when i set it) about 3 months ago. it was intermitant but now it doesn't work at all. the information that i've found on the net doesn't seem to point me to the problem. i replaced the rear brake bulbs, cleaned the pins and ring on the wheel, checked fuses and wiring. still can't find the problem... one thing that i have found is a sensor on the brake master cyl is leaking a small amount of brake fluid. there is a diagram that i found that mentions a sensor on the master cyl but it is for a mark VIII. i am a heavy equipment mechanic and have the tools to find this problem if someone could please give me some help. diagrams or any advice would be greatly appr.
thanks
There should be 12V to both sides of that switch when the key is in RUN, except when the brake is applied. If you only have 12V on the P/O wire, the switch is bad.

thank you very much. what a head scratcher without the proper diagram. i went out this am and checked the switch, with key on and foot off brake no voltage out of the switch. a quick jumper and i headed off for work. on the highway i hit cruise and it worked as it should. again thank you very much...
On my MarkVIII the cruise went out and about 2 weeks later I leaked brake fluid like it was going out of style, about one master cyl. full every 50 miles
I found the sensor on the valve after the master cyl, boy was in in a bad spot, next to the side of the motor and fender, no room with the 4.6DOHC...
The dealer had one hour labor on the job, so I listened to the mechanic cuss and hurt himself instead of me

It's the backup kill switch. On gas engines, the BOO sends a signal to the servo to back off the throttle when you hit the brake, but that pressure switch cuts power to the servo's clutch, so it DROPS the throttle instantly.
Late diesels don't have a servo because they don't have a throttle. Their cruise is either built into the EEC, or an add-on all-electronic module.
