Should I start to worry about the tranny in my truck it has 175k. I don't tow alot with it and to my knowledge it is the original transmission. So any advice that could make it last alot longer.
thanks in advance
It is an 01 4x4
Just save your money for a new rebuilt HD tranny and torque converter cause it will happen before your engine needs replacement. Also, in the mean time, add an additional tranny cooler, extra external filter and a Transgo Tugger shift kit, all for around $300.
I do not recommend an additional trans cooler. There are already two on the truck, adding a third can cause too much restriction which will REDUCE it's cooling. If the trans isn't getting too hot there is no need for this. The original cooler on the V10 truck was pretty good from the factory.
The best thing you can do to prolong the life of the trans is to change the fluid every 30,000 miles. Either find a shop that has a fluid exchange machine (sometimes called a flush machine) and DOES NOT use flush chemicals or do it yourself. DIY Transmission Fluid Change
