I ordered a new compressor wheel for my turbo today via Clay. I have read some info about deleting the EBPV, but when I search for this mod, there is info about the waste-gate mixed in. I am almost positive that these are 2 separate mods, but I'm confused about what they both do. I'm thinking about deleting the EBPV while I do the wicked wheel, and doing it without buying the blank pedestal, but can't find the link to it in the sticky threads. Would someone please educate me on the benefits/disadvantages of both mods with maybe a link on how to do EBPV delete? Thanks!
Here is a pic of my old EBV. I used the Turbonetics high flow outlet in the pic. I did nothing with the pedistal it's still original. The most noticeable difference is the turbo noise out the exhaust is much more louder than before, which I like.
The wastegate is on the other side of the turbo. Many people unplug the red line going to it and plug it. Or it can be tightened also. Both will allow you to build more boost.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Will I set off a CEL if I disconnect the red vacuum hose? Also, by gutting the EBPV (?) will I potentially harm my engine?
The EBPV is only used to help warm up the engine quicker in cold weather. You can see the valve/flapper in my pic. It closes in cold weather only. If you live in a warm climate it may never close. If you unplug the red line from the wastegate and plug it, it will not set a CEL.
The exhaust backpressure valve is used to warm the engine up in cold temperatures in a factory application. It can be modified to act as an exhaust brake.
The reason to remove it is to eliminate a potential oil leak in the pedestal by removing the actuator arm and plugging the hole it used to occupy.
The wastegate is used to bleed off excess drive pressure from the turbo.
Is there a thread for the exhaust brake mod. Thanks for the info I live in cold weather so I probably will not delete it. This is a whole new thing to me diesels pretty cool stuff.
