what's this for ???

rear crossmember on bed..... lower flange is for mounting to frame rail

what is the little flange for on top ?????

Probably to keep the bracket from deforming when it is riveted on? What do I win?

A little extra support for the bed floor wood board that goes over it, as most people that climb into a truck bed do it at the side where they can hang onto the side. That's my SWAG.
