My old boss just bought a 97 F350, crew cab, 4x4, 460/E40d, with about 65K miles on it. The transmission works fine in the forward ranges, but, does not even attempt to engage reverse, no noise, no nothing, the computer does bump the idle up though.
I did both KOEO and KOER tests, and, I got no codes, just 111, which is a system pass. No flashing of the O/D light, nothing. Anyone have any ideas? I'm thinking that it's not a serious problem, as the low/reverse clutch seems to be OK.

Maybe test the Manual Lever Position Sensor on the drivers side of the trans. It might be bad and the sensor can't detect reverse. Other than this sounds like the Reverse clutch is not engaging.
But trannies are not my area of knowledge. I just know I have one that needs rebuilt.
Well, judging from the shrapnel in the oil pan, the reverse planetary is no more....
Oh well, I was right in that it wasn't a clutch related problem tho.... LOL
