Howdy, I inherited my dads 65 F250 4x that he bought new. He passed in 99 and it has sat parked since. Put some fresh fuel and a battery in it and it fired right up. Changed the oil, threw some new tires on it and am driving it daily. Im looking bringing it back to its former glory, and one thing Im having trouble getting info on is the leaf springs which are worn out. These are the slider type. I learned to drive in this truck and I remember how well it handled driving fast threw the corners on our country roads. So I want that same handling but want a softer ride (has helper springs and it was always a buck board empty) and I would like to give it a more modern stance with 33s. Im hoping its not cant have it all type situation. Like to know if any one here has replaced the springs on these slider styles with the same results Im looking for?
Welcome to the forum.Lots of knowledge here for the asking.
If it were me,and I wanted to dial in my ride,I would take 'em to a good spring shop. They can do wonderous things.Maybe they can be re-arched?They should be able to make springs to suit your specs. At the very least they can give some food for thought advice.
Yup Ill go with some pics. Its good to see your keeping your dads truck in the family and on the road. Welcome to FTE. Im planning to have both of my trucks springs reached but have as yet not done so I cant be of any help in answering your question on the softer ride. Im interested to see what you come up with. Im thinking that if they can do a rebuild on the springs they may be able to use less leaves and get a smoother ride with the same lift as stock. You will probably loose a little load capability but hey mine doesn't get used for a work truck anymore so Im not to worried about that at all. Are you going to continue to use it as a working truck or just a weekend driver? Let us know and please do post up some pics.
Where are you at in Oregon? My son lives in Oregon City south of Portland.
