I will have to check for the switch. Yeah those are 12VDC.
Learning lots here about this, thanks!
So just a cable to the red. Not sure why they ran a white. Normally the ground just catches the frame, but no problem there. Most often, facing the genset you come in under it on the left side with the positive and right side with the negative. The terminals are very clearly labeled. No sense running any bigger than the wire gage in the box.
Aren't you even embarrassed it they made it so easy?
I am sure you will remember to unplug your shoreline before messing with the transfer switch.
From the looks of things, the lead that reads "generator in" should end somewhere in your generator compartment. Don't you have a lead other than the plug to the remote and the cables from the battery.
Just that terminal box in the earlier pic that is the same black cable.
So I think the intent is to hook up right there in the box and close the cover, neat and clean.
Okay, hold on. Maybe I am just not on the same page, but if that metal box with the cover is from the transfer switch, those can not be 12 VDC leads. You are switching 120 VAC at the transfer switch. There is nothing in the transfer switch that runs to the battery, and if the wires in that box run to the transfer switch you have a red, white, and ground, in other words a 30-amp feed from the generator, not a 50 amp.
Oh crap, never mind. I didn't see the black lead hidden there. That is your junction box from the genset. You do not have battery leads there. You are going to have to run those, which is the way it always is.
too bad. I was think I could just tap in there. Oh well not that difficult to run some wires thru the box and connect the battery power.
Where you cut the holes through the metal box, use grommets so the battery leads don't chafe, but also take a look at coming from underneath. Lots of rigs, in fact most I see, do that also.
the hold is there by the box. It has the grommet in place already. So they did a pretty decent job but not 100%. They could have feed the wiring right there with the controller.
Can't help with the wiring part, but have the 5500 Onan Marquis builtin on my Suites. It will run both ACs and the micro at the same time. I am at about 240hrs on 8 yr old gen.
I have been on a jobsite for last month and it has been hot and humid--tried using a 4K Generac first, to keep gas costs down, but found I needed both ACs. Began running the Onan during the day--it will go thru a 40# tank in 8hrs--$30/day to run the gen. Since my tanks are in line and one behind the other, they are a pain to get out and refil. I added an inline tee and gas valve, then a 12' hose, and run the gen with an aux 40# tank. I can easily see by the moisture when the aux tank is out and the gen is running on the outward tank. Then just close the valve and take the aux tank about 8 mles to Ace Hdwe and get it refilled.
Same job, another trailer--Heartland toy hauler with single AC and smaller gas gen--he is going thru 12 gallons in 24 hrs continual use.
Friend of mine bought an Open Range 2 yrs ago with gen prep--I found on CL the identical gen w/ 10hrs on it at a local RV dealer. He had the dealer put it in his trailer for $1800 total outlay. It is working fine for his 2 ACs. RV dealer says he can't get value out of gen on resale, so he removes them and sells them outright.
IF you opt for gasoline, never leave ethanol in the system to store it--in fact, you should run Stabl in it every tankful.
