Well,

I just rebuilt my rear 2 years ago, that's what, makes that kit a little more enticing to me. I know what I have, and I think I would have more money in tracking down front and rear axels, or hubs/adapters for the front, and all that.

I can get the wheels, hardware and adapters for 1600, so if I can find some SB dually fenders I'll be all set.

Yeah, that would make some sense then to do. If you went that route, you would stick with the same ratio, or redo that to?

My thought was to always change the ratio. The rear was rebuilt under warranty by FORD through my ESP. The truck had a pinion seal leak, went to Ford because of ESP, tech short cut it, didn't disassemble to properly install the seal, and 10k later the rear is howling, so I took it back and luckily still had some warranty left and had it completely rebuilt.

With the 305's on it now its a little slouchy, but if I do the conversion I will be going back down to a 285/65/17, so I should be ok again at that point. But I would like to do a 4.10 swap at some point, maybe even put some sort of locker in it too.

Thanks for the vin that will help in locating some dually fenders and fuel neck stuff if I have to use FORD.

I ran into this site when looking around for dually stuff. I love the stability the dually gives me and I also like that I didn't have to build it! And its a "newer" short bed dually too.

I think 10 was the last year for a short bed dually. I would love to trade up but its just not in the cards for me. Plus all the work I have into the 06 its kinda hard to part with.

Yea 2010 was the last year. I love having mine but would part with it for the right price. But you've got the diesel and mine is a V10. If you go through the conversion document it well as I'm sure lots will like to see.

So here is a little update for ya. I made the pull down to Cape May yesterday, which is about 400 miles for us 1 way. Last year the truck was very mushy with the Coopers. I have since replaed them with a set of BFG All Terrain T/A KO's and I have to say night and day difference.

The truck feels way more solid so I amy not do this conversion after all. I think I will add a Helwig Sway Bar in the rear and see how the next tug goes. That will save a few pennies for the next set of mods.

I'm tempted to get the BFG all terrains for my truck. I read a thread tho how someone had a bad experience balancing the dual rears. Probably the tire place using 15yr olds but I'd hate to spend $1200+ on tires to have issues. My current fronts have a horrible wear pattern on the outside edge and make the front end shake. Had an alignment a year ago that did absolutely nothing.

Well to be honest with ya,

I had BFG's on all my trucks. When we bought the 5er last year I wanted to replace my tires cause they were a little dry rotted and I didnt want to take any chances with them.

I didnt want to spend the money on the BFG's so one of my vendors talked me into a set of Cooper A/T 3's they had a great tread pattern but they werent as stable as the BFG's. Long story short after 1 400 mile trip I removed them and put on the BFG's. They wear like iron on my truck and they have on all the other SD's I has as well 03 gas and a 04 diesel.

If I still do the conversion I will buy a set og BFG's as well.

Going to revive this thread for a bit. I've been looking into possibly trading the 06 again, but with the slow season at work approaching quickly I think I'm going to attempt this conversion. I've had my truck on CL and I thought that 23k was a fair price for a truck with 72k on the clock, plus all the work I've done and just before my trip to Cape May this year I did all w pads, rotors, and hardware all the way around as well as new tires earlier in the year. So I had nothing but low ballers that had no idea about the truck or the work I have into it..which I know is debatable on how it affects the price, but I still think my price is fair compared to what they are going for at dealerships, so I said hey why not look at trading it in. I went to a few dealers and the best I could do was 16,500 and I just cant justify that on a 60k truck I'm looking to replace mine with so....

Can anyone with a newer dually 11-up tell me if you fenders bolt on or are they molded into the bed side?

Same question to the 99-10 dually owners, and to you guys also are the short bed dually fenders different that the 8' bed dually fenders?

Im thinking of doing this and just keeping the truck til the doors fall off, my reasoning is I don't drive it much in the winter, I have a 97 Yukon to bang around in when my tenure a Fire Chief is done, and my DD is a 13 F150 EB, for another year or so anyway.

Thanks,

Sarge

My short bed dually fenders have the fuel door in the fender vs on the bedside with the long bed. I assume mine are somehow glued on... When you remove the inner plastic splash guard you can see what looks similar to a reg bed side without the folded lip to dress it up as on non dually trucks.

They are bolted on (99-10) I assume the same with newer.

The shortbed fenders have the filler door in them, and you would need to replace/modify the filler neck...

So I called my local Ford dealer and they are kinda helpless unless its in the book they don't want to answer my questions.

The short be dually fenders from Ford are about 2k for both sides. That may be out of the question for me, so with that being said, how different are the bed sides between 99-10 and 11-up trucks...would a 11-up dually fender work I guess is my question.

My thought is there is less fender so the price has to be less. Now trying to find a dealer willing to talk to me about it and give me part numbers is a different story.

Thanks for the help, I'm beginning to regret resurrecting this idea.
