ECM ordering problem
So I fried my ECM and need a new one. Here's the situation...
Mechanic says he can't locate one and for me to see what I can find. So I call the local NAPA and give them the number off the existing ECM. Only problem is, the one I have apparently came off a 90-93. So I say just give me the one that is supposed to go on my truck. They can't, they need the numbers off of it.
Okay... I call up the dealership to find out what that number would be. Maybe they can run my VIN and tell me what should be in there. Nope, they can't.
I ask them what they would do if I had brought my truck in for a new ECM and he had no idea what they would do.
I haven't had any luck finding a match at my local salvage yards so I ended up having it sent out to be rebuilt.
Not too big of a deal, but it would be real nice to have what is supposed to be in there. I mean, 90-93 might have slightly different fuel management codes or something, I have no idea.
Has anyone ran into a problem of getting an exact match ECM? And how did you resolve this?
Thanks in advance.
I use a combination of motorcraftservice.com and a cross-reference table from Standard Motor Products to figure out which PCM should be a vehicle.
