engine swap

I want to reunite my son with his grandfathers 1965 F100, engine and trans lost in custody battle. I have located a 1964 to purchase for the engine and trans. Sweet running 6 casting C3AE 6015 AC ID F25JG480335. It has a front motor mount only. His 65 F10JL665137 of course has T Ibeam and side mounts and a big engine cradle. How difficult to put the 64 engine in the 65? What will I need? Confidence says 2000 mile road trip to california when Im done. I dont want a big restoration porject, thats for him to enjoy doing. I just want to drop an engine and trans, hang a Califirnia or bust sign and Go. Please help

long gone Welcome to FTE and the Slicks Forum.

Why don't you look forward instead of backward since you need both the engine & tranny. I would look late 80s or 90s 302 or 351W with AOD. This could be a daily driver and with and OD tranny get a little more mpgs.

Don't get in a rush, take your time, you will find what you need.

This came up in a posting just a few down the list (right now). Since the information applies here...

Thank you John for the sound advice. My Son has a vision for his truck. His vision includes that 6 cylinder hum that reminds him of his grandfather. I on the other hand will still have the donor truck. a pretty straight 1964 F250 without an engine and trans to play with. Im hoping for some advice on to accomplish the swap if possible.

The cheap and easy way is to load her up on a trailer, hang the sign on her and drag her to your son's house.... stopping at a Calif. Motor Veh. center for a vin verification on the way. Be sure the vin matches the title.

I'm in agreement with John about looking forward, which also makes mounting the engine a lot easier. Since you have your heart (or your son's heart) set on an I-6, why not look for a 300 C I engine (or a 240) which will bolt right in? I'm guessing it's because you already have the '64 truck and you want to use it? With enough time, patience, skill, and money you can do anything you want. Good luck with whatever you choose.

OK. How about a 73-79 300 I-6 mated to an AOD. Buy the donor truck and get all the parts for power steering and power disc brakes at the same time.

The C4 works well, but I'm sticking with the AOD OD tranny because gas prices keep going up, and the young man can use all the help he can get.
