Hey all, just got my transmission (4R100) completely rebuilt professionally along with a new TC, by a friend of ours who works at a transmission repair shop. I put the transmission back in last night, filled it full of fluid while it was running, as well as threw in a quart of lucas... I have all my gears P,R,N,D,2,1... but for some reason when the truck is in drive it will not shift out of 2nd.. into 3rd that is... gets to about 2,200 - 2,300 range at about 35 mph and will not shift. Now, if I really get on it, it will act like its going to shift to 3rd but just put itself back into 2nd... I really don't think he messed up rebuilding the transmission considering we've taken about 4 to him and never had a problem but I suppose anythings possible... We're thinking it might be a sensor of some sort? Still waiting to hear back from him, but in the mean time I'd see if anyone on here had some ideas...
I don't know of any sensor that could do that. It could be a bad shift solenoid, or a stuck shift valve, or a problem with the direct clutch, or some other thing I haven't thought of.
I believe so the back up lights come on when I go to reverse.
i installed a new linkage also. I put it where the old one was, it lines up on the dash with the gear I put it in. And my scanner also gives the gear and all match.

I see I am going to pull the valve body all three and recheck them see if one is not rite. And recheck the shift linkage . Thank you I will keep y'all posted of findings.
I Finally got my truck back going again. It was a check ball out of the hole and a gasket with one pin hole not rite. Maybe the one way sprag. Not for sure. It did go good shifting first to second o 3 or 4. I Fixed it and it got worse. Going into drive and reverse no shift at all. Anyway it is good now I put new intermediates they burned a little still good but I wanted to make sure they were. Anyway to many mods to list shifts great and firm no leaks pressure was 120 at idle. Around 250 going down road 45. Quit
checking after that. So thank you guys for all your advice and knowledge.
