Hi, I just posted this in the 5.4 forum. Doesn't seem active, thought I'd try here.
I have a 06 f250 with a 5.4 in it. 336000 kms. About 250000ish miles.
The engine died on me towing my 5-6k lb cargo trailer to work.
Codes say drivers side cylinders are not working as well as a bunch of other codes. Both ford and my mechanic friend said she's cooked.
I need to be towing ASAP, but my budget is limited. I would like to get a used 5.4. I know very little about these motors.
I am wondering if any 5.4 works in place of mine. There are a couple of f150 5.4 's available in my area.
What do I need to know? As well any other options, advice or knowledge would be much appreciated.
Not just any 5.4L engine will work in your '06. You need a 3V engine, which was available from '04-'10 in the F150 and '05-'10 in the Super Duty. I think they are compatible, but am not completely sure. A 2V engine from previous generation trucks, or any generation E-series will NOT work.
Thanks crazy. I had figured I'd need a 3v. There is one on Craigslist my area, from a 05 150. 200000 kms. (About 150000ish miles I think) No price. I called, he asked what I'd offer, but I really don't have a clue where to start dollar wise. I need a cat and manifolds too which I assume I can get as well. The motor appears to be attached to the rest of the truck still. I would be bringing my mechanic with me to look. I definitely know to listen for the exhaust tick that my last motor had.
I posted a reply in the 5.4L forum. You can add '05-'10 expedition to what Crazy001 posted. I believe Lincoln Navigator starting in '05 also came with the 3-valve engine.
When you do find one have they run it with you there so
you know it's not a dog (or is that Dodge?) :-snicker.
But really it is better if you can hear and see it run.
Good luck and welcome to FTE
Sean
NOTE : I guess I should not pick on the under-Dodge er(dog)
