Spartan lunchbox locker. That's why it failed. I was getting on a busy highway (turning) and put the hammer down and it snapped. The locker put all the power to the inner (slow) tire and the axle shaft couldn't take it.

That will do it. Buddy of mine used to drag race trucks. Said he felt he was making progress when something broke because he knew where to beef it up.

Haven't gone through a firewood season with my '66 yet but it gets driven 100+ miles a day, every single day.

I've moved dirt, concrete, paver stones, all manner of construction debris... You name it. Steering gets a bit loose but I've never had a problem stopping or going with the truck loaded down.
