I've hauled scrap metal many times before. I used to run my own commercial transport business and hauled a lot of scrap metal around the 3 years that I ran my business for. There are still rare occasions that I get the opportunity to haul scrap and the other day was one of them
Wasn't a heavy load by any means, only weighed 1650 lbs. but was a Big load on a physical scale of things. Was 3 Large hollow tanks, dismantled towers, and my bed was filled with boxes of assorted grater teeth and claws, and some other misc items. Mt truck's a 2001 F350 w/ 5.4 Triton. 4.30 Gearing. 4WD. And my trailer is a 2008 Rainbow Made 16' equipment trailer. Tandem 5200 lbs axles. Pintle Hitch. Anyone else on here haul scrap metal from time to time? Post em up
Yes, I have hauled scrap before. It has the potential to be a pain in the posterior. Te best was using a dump truck to haul. Scale out. Back up to the scrap pile, then grab the tare weight.
Here's a load of scrap iron and aluminum I hauled this summer. Our soccer club bought a set of new goals so we cut up the 4x4 aluminum cross bars and posts and the steel backstays that supported the goals. Goals measure 24 feet by 8 feet. My bed is 10 feet long. I took some other scrap i had lying around and got some from a couple of friends.

Hey guys, I just recently took a few cars in with a friend from scrap and made a video out of one of the hauls if anyone's interested in viewing it Also I have photos of the haul we did of the 2nd car too.
I just finished reading your story. I totally agree, the 5.4 is such an under rated truck by a lot of people, and most don't even give it a fair chance for towing performance. It's a really good gas platform for a full sized truck for it's time anyhow. If I bought a new one, I'd go with a 6.2 Boss but really for what I tow with mine, the 5.4 is great. I replaced my 3.73 gears for my now 4.30 gears which do help a Lot with towing, especially in hilly terrain. And I did upgrade the auxiliary trans cooler to a 28K Tru-Cool as well as put a Derale deep cooling trans pan in it. I've owned my truck and have towed with it and daily driven it for a bit over 3 years now and it's a terrific truck
