On my 88 F-150 4x4 the idle is way to high sometimes after running for a miniute or 2 the idle will drop down to normal but as soon as I tap the gas it goes back high and wont come back. What should I check?
Thanks
Hello, it would be nice to know how long it has been doing that but there are several possible reasons. Do you have a "check engine" light on at all?
My suspicions are the "TPS" sensor but you will need a scanner to verify. It could also be dirty throttle plates or even a sticking throttle cable.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 17-Jul-02 AT 10:26 PM (EST)]Its been doing it for about 3 months its not currently being driven because of this and a steering problem which I have fixed. There is no check engine light and it has had transmisson work done recently.
I have checked the throttle cable and looked at the throttle plates they look clean but whats the proper way to clean them.
