New with questions

Ive been scouring through the forums for hours a day for atleast a week now trying to find answers. Recently got a 2002 f250 xlt, crew cab, long bed, 4x4 6.8 v10. Couple things ive noticed that I was curious about and cant find answers.

1) Ive noticed when cruising apr. 38-41mph and 68-71mph I can hear (not real loud) and feel a vibration in the steering wheel. Just had wheel bearings, ball joints replaced, front dif axle replaced and suspension checked and all seemed good.

2) noticed while driving over certain (abrupt) bumps and holes the suspension sounds loud (like struts moving) or suspension making creeks and rattle. Cant feel it at all in the steering, occasionally can feel the bumps in the floor. Like i said above suspension all checked out good. Ideas on quieting it down.

3) noticed when I put the truck in reverse from park or drive, or go from reverse to drive I can hear a light clunk as the tranny shifts gears. Fluids are good, no gear slip, shifts great. Anyone else familiar with this noise?

Thanks in advance for feedback everyone!!!!!!!! (can only stare at forum pages for so long before ya just decide to start your own thread)

1) more than likely its something in the suspension. I know you said it was checked but that doesn't always mean its good to go. Could also be the tires.

2) sounds like bushings or ball joints. If the joints are new it's probably bushings. Springs, tie rod, sway bar... Look in those areas. Also, give your grease fittings a couple shots of grease. That will often clean up some clunks and bumps

3) Classic slip joint symptoms. Drop the drive shaft (Chalk the wheels and apply the ebrake!! 4x4 wouldn't be a bad idea either) and lube the slip joint. There are how tos on this. Shockingly it's one of the big ones I don't have a video for. Google "guzzle slip joint". I'm on my phone or I would post a link for you.

Welcome to FTE and enjoy your new truck!

firemedic138, nothing to add to that excellent advice, I just wanted to thank you for being a first responder.

Here is a link to the "slip joint lubricating" instructions.

Slip joint regreasing

Also, you should look around in the Super Duty Tech Folder. There are a lot of good links posted.
