Hi all -- Noticed at the end of winter this year getting a pretty good squeek from the springs - believe it is the rear more than the front. Contacted my local Ford dealership -- the OEM plastic spring inserts are avaliable -- has anyone done this before, and/or any suggestions? Thanks!!
You are in luck. An FTE member known by the user name 1975StroppeBaja has done this repair and has documented the repair, along with many others, on the Super Duty tech article portion of his website....
ive changed mine twice in the 111k i have on my truck but i would never buy them from the dealer TOTAL RIP OFF! I go to a local spring shop and pay $1.00 a piece for them. In the rear i put a 4ton jack and a piece of 6x6 under the hitch and lift the suspension so the tires are just almost off the ground, then i use my brass wedge and hit it between the leaf i want to separate and pop the old one out and push the new one in, be sure to swear a little grease on the new spring pad. Shouldnt take you more than an hour tops
.......... and you are right --- buying from the dealer is a total rip off --- quote for plastic inserts: $47 per spring!!! $188 for all four, plus tax....... and God only knows what they would charge for installing!!! Ugh!!! Thanks all!!
I also have the squeeky front end. In one of Jasons(1975StroppeBaja) posts, he mentions that the 1C3Z5B302-AA kit would not work on his 2004. If I get this right, that kit works for 99-2000 trucks. Later than that you need the 2C3Z-5586-AA kit.
