Anyone on here using a Donaldson ELF7405 filter on their 7.3? Specifically on an Excursion with a 7.3. Looks like a great filter, but rather large and wondering if any risk of hitting it on something and punturcing it? Picture....(clipped from another forum)
I believe there's a clearance on the side of the oil pan for this filter to work. I was reading abotu it awhile back, but came to the conclusion the standard motorcraft filter was more than adequate, given the 7500 mile oil change intervals I'm planning with synthetic.
Couple more filter pictures off another site. Filter itself holds 3 quarts, which eliminates the left over one quart of oil on a 15 quart change. Apparently the hardest part is lifting up the filter to attach with 3 quarts in it.
Here's what the poster said when he posted the pictures.....
filter intended for a Caterpillar 3406. It holds 3 quarts of oil, and has the best ratings for any full-flow oil filter I've ever seen.
15 microns absolute (98.7%)
7 microns nominal (50%)
I ordered one from ryder Fleet Products and plan to run Schaeffers 7000 15-40, that is if I eliminate any concerns. The only thing I can see in the picture below is a possibility of bottoming out on the bar below.
