Hi...new to the site. Been lurking some in the past to glean information on Excursions and the 7.3 Powerstroke. Well after 16 years I'm parting with my truck, a 1994 Ford C350 Centurion loaded with most options. Currently has 118,600 miles on it. Been a great rig. Just loves gas too much.
Decided to upgrade to a 2002 Ford Excursion Limited, with a 7.3 Powerstroke with 126,070 miles on it. Two tone interior, with four captains.
Was going to buy a smaller crossover for trips since the wife is retiring which makes us both retired. Centurion was my hunting rig and did light duty pulling my 22' North River Commander. After seeing the milage one gets in a crossover such as a Cadillac SRX or Buick Enclave...22mph highway, I thought why not eliminate a vehicle and get an Excursion with a 7.3. They get 16-20+ depending highway and far more comfortable. Not that much difference, and I like big to travel in. Still take it hunting and pull my boat on the side.
May be able to actually get the X in the garage. For what it's worth in the world's largest SUV discussion....my Centurion is slightly larger.
So looking forward to learning and participating here.......

Holy Smoke! Another Centurion/Excursion owner
Your Centurion has a 4" longer wheel base, but the overall bumper to bumper is a bit shorter. The C-350 is 9" shorter between the center line of the rear axle and the receiver hitch and the towing characteristics between the 2 are huge.
Wacenturion, did you trade in the Centurion, or do you still have it? Those are two sweet rigs you have!
Still have it. Selling it. Mechanically near perfect....needs a small exhaust manifold leak addressed. Cosmetically needs some attention...clear coat coming off on top and portions of sides. Out in the sun too long. Still it stands out in a crowd.

Here is a pic on my C-350 from last summer.

Can you eloborate. Still have not towed with my Excursion. Picking it up Tuesday. Is your Centurion a 460? Hard to imagine it would tow better than Centurion, as it literally feels like nothing behind it.

No, I meant that the Excursion is really lame as a tow unit compared to the C-350. I think it's a combination of the weaker suspension and that extra 9" on the back, which gives the trailer more leverage against the rear axle on the Excursion.
Both mine are the Power Strokes and your gonna love the extra oomph from the 7.3 over the 460. You should also read thru some of the other forums on how to help keep your transmission from overheating.
Thanks Alan.....I only have my Centurion to judge, but if with my boat attached (6500 lbs.) and I want to enter traffic on the freeway, I just do as if I was not towing and you can't really tell the difference. Going up steep hills towing, downshift out of overdrive and I pass people driving normally.
Planning on changing out the Excursionn's trans cooler to the larger 31 row 6.0 cooler. One of the first mods on my list. Want to keep her pretty much stock except for that and perhaps the spring update and gauges to monitor...pod ...Edge, etc.
