What part is this?
I have purchased a 1988 Ford F-150 and would like to learn about the engine so I can fix on my own. A manual did not come with the vehicle. Can someone tell me what this is in the picture? I am looking at the small, white cylinder to below and to the left of the oil filter that has a yellow wire cover plugged into it. The wire in mine has frayed and broken so I want to know what will be affected.

Welcome Lisa. That looks like the oil pressure sender which is sorta important
, if the wire completely disconnects the oil gauge on the dash would bottom out or if you don't have gauges a light would come on indicating impending engine failure.
