I am wanting to disable the key in the ignition/open the door buzzer, it's got to go! So I did a forum search and only turned up an old thread on doing this to a newer F250SD. I read enough in the thread about the inherent problems of doing this (at least on the newer models) that I thought I ought to ask somebody on the forum about it. Specifically, has anybody disabled the buzzer on a 1992 F150 ( or model years close to)? What exactly is involved? Is it as easy as pulling the buzzer itself or maybe cutting a specific wire? Thanks, Charles
Ok, this one's pretty easy. (that thing is annoying). If you do it this way, it will still chime with the headlights on and can be easily reversed.
-Remove the plastic colum cover (3-4 screws out the bottom)
-turn key one position forward from lock
-use small item to push release pin
-Pull key/tumbler assembly out
-locate the key chime switch
-just slide it out
-wrap it up in some electrical tape
-reinstall the tumbler (without the switch)
-reinstall the plastic cover (the taped up switch will fit under the cover
Charlez, thanks a ton for the reply! That looks like an easy solution and no cutting needed. The best thing of all is I had to replace the ignition cylinder anyway as it is bad- 2 birds with one stone! By the way, those were great pics. Thanks for your input and effort, this forum is great. Charles
charlez, I'm a slow worker! Just got around to replacing the ignition cylinder tonite. While I was in there, I disabled the key chime switch per your procedure. Works like a charm, no more annoying buzzer! Thanks, Charles
