Hi I just finished replacing my blown 302 with a 351W.. I am very impressed with the extra power and torque, butr i have not yet been able to really dump the cltch on her yet due to a terrible bouncing or bucking if you wish. I am running a JD 3.5 in sus lift a 3 in bod lift, an extra 2 in block in the rear to dive the nose a little, and only little 32 in mud terrains for now.. With the 302 i never had this problem. When I start off the whole glass body and feels like vehicle starts hopping before i let the clutch all the way out unless i ease the clutch out with only a mere idle Help my bronc wont stop bucking Do i need traction bars to stop wheel hop?
No I did not The 351 had an automatic on it and I scrapped that and put on the manual 3 speed fly wheel clutch and transmission off the 302 since thers was nothing wrong with it that i could tell.
yes the lift was there before and with driving the bronc it seems to be getting better unless I am just getting more use to the clutch and when it kicks in i dont know Puzzled in Pa
Being that it seems to be getting better, you might have got some grease on the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces when you were swapping around.
Also, how are the engine mounts? Did you replace them when you did the swap? If they are worn, it will throw off the clutch linkage geometry and can cause the same problem.
I did not replace the mounts but will try it out thanks .. I was also wondering since it seems you have a great knowledge of broncs. I have a c4 automatic tranny from a two wheel drive vehicle sitting under my workbench and i would love to put it in my bronc. How do I find a transfer case that will fit this and what parts do I need to link them together?
I don't think there is any feasible way to adapt the 2wd transmission. You could run a slip yoke and short shaft to a divorced transfer case, but there isn't really enough drivetrain room with the short wheelbase.
You can get the Bronco C4 output shaft, adaptor housing and adaptor shaft to mate to your transfer case. But the C4 will need to be disassembled to replace the output shaft. You can sometimes find these kits on Ebay for pretty decent prices.
For the rest of the swap, you would need a stock 75 Bronco flexplate and torque converter. Auto steering column and linkage or aftermarket shifter. Kickdown and carb linkage isn't needed, but it makes driving it a little more "automatic". You also need another manifold vacuum line to go to the shift modulator.
Thanks for the feedback But at this point in the broncs reconstruction my budget unfortunately has me slowed on new impovements.. Would you happen to know Where I can find a new or used speedometer cable just fried mine on the exhaust
I just skimmed thru the User CP and didn't see anything that looked like an "FTE-ONLY" e-mail option. What is it? What does it do? And how do I enable it?
OR...
Do you have a link to a thread that already covers all that info?
If it is clutch chatter, pull out the transmission and put a dial indicator in the bellhousing bore and rotate the crank to see if the bore is concentric with the crank.
I had this problem once and it took me a long time to figure out what the real problem was. Also, be sure your axle u-bolts are tight.
