5.0 easy MAF swap ?

So me and my friend just scored , we picked up a late 1994 f150 with the 5.0 AOD trans with 57k , original miles , got it for 900 , tree fell on the cab , damn shame . But now we got a replacement engine , the engine is mass air , so I'm also assuming its already roller equiped , now the 88 f150 that this is going into is speed density , and of course we want to switch to mass air , how easy will this one be , could we just unplug the mass air harness and plug it into the 88 f150 ?

Thanks !!

if your putting an 94 maf air in a 88 speed density truck, there will be big differences, the computers are way different so you`ll need the computer from the 88,if you want to put in the 94 in a 88 body,it will require some work, computer and tranny are not the same, the computer in 94 control them both and the computer is designated to the engine and tranny, the whole wiring systems are different and the 94 cannot be put in the 88.cabs are way different and the plugs wont bolt in.Also the maff air intakes are different in that the speed density has a sensor that measures air temp.next to fuel rail, its in the air box in the 94..I hope I got this right and helped..

You will need to use the 88 harness, but re-pin the EEC connector at the firewall to that of the 94 MAF computer. What trans do you have in the 88?

Then what are all the steps to pulling it off , I hope it's not too hard , and the 88 has the AOD the 94 prolly has that or the E4od but I planned on using the engine and transmission from the 1994

As far as simple to install, I would recommend the IST Kit.

If I was doing the swap, I would try and find a MAF EEC for a manual trans, and then run the AOD. As far as simple, that would be the easiest. Even then, you will have to re-pin your EEC connector as well as add the required MAF wiring and sequential injector harness. Or you can use the 1994 harness, but you may have to re-pin the firewall and other connectors for everything to work right. There really is no easy way to do it other than what Puddy recommended. I am going to MAF swap my 92 here in a couple months. I had to find a specific EEC to match my trucks engine and trans, had to get all of the MAF hardware and sensor, the COMPLETE air intake assembly and still need to order a new injector harness. Once I have all of those, I have to re-pin the EEC connector and add the new wiring. A MAF swap is not an easy thing really...

I went thru this already. I had a '95 MAF donor, but only used the air intake for the MAF. Scored old wiring from a '93, and stripped it, cut it, and soldered it all in. FAR easier, unless you plan to pull that tranny from the '94. Its gonna be a lot of work.

I did lots of research and took my time. Altogether about 2 weeks of work, a little here and a little there. I completely dismantled my wiring and cleaned it, and it looks nice.

There were no less than 4 different automatic transmissions available for these trucks and in terms of wiring and control they are not interchangable so you can't assume anything, check the trans code on the drivers door pillar and go from there. T is for AOD, E for E4OD, U is 4R70w, G is the C6.
It's most likely the '94 has the E4OD or 4R70w and if you're gonna use the complete engine and trans then you have a lot of work to do, you can't use any of the wiring in the '88.. no portion of it will connect to the '94 harness so it all has to go and you need to remove everything under the hood of the '94(engine and ALL WIRING) and move it to the '88 along with the dash cluster and associated wiring.
This is not the easy way to get MAF, if you want easy then remove the engine harness from the '94(complete from sensors to PCM), take it all apart and remove the portions for the injectors and MAF meter, disassemble the EEC connector and remove the pins for those wires from the connector, tape these wires up to form a MAF conversion harness and then add that to the '88 truck harness. Then go find a Mustang A9L or A9P PCM and use that instead of the truck PCM so that you don't get 1000 codes for the computer controlled transmission. Note that there will be some re-pinning of the '88 PCM connector to match it with the Mustang PCM, but that's easily done when the connector is apart to insert the pins for the conversion harness you built.

If the 94 mass air truck has the 4R70W ,( it more than likely does) it may be worth the effort and extra work to use it , they have the wide ratio gear sets with a lower 1st and second gear ratio ,just throw in a shift kit and it will handle a built motor very well ....

Lew. I have always wondered about the shifting of the 4R70w with those wide ratio gears.. wouldn't a lower second ratio make the jump to 3rd even bigger than it is with the AOD or is the TC lockup a seperate event in the 4R70w? I've been lusting after a 4R70w recently because with my AOD that 2-3 shift drops the motor completely out of the powerband.

I think the TC lockup is different in the 4R70W not sure, i never noticed any lag in the third gear shift , but the lower gears help a lot on the low end ,that with good rear end gearing helps the 5.0 out where it needs it....

I know the TC in the 4R70W is programable , when i had it dyno*tuned they adjusted the TC lock up and the stall , and reset all the up and down shifts....

Thanks for all the responses guys ! So let me just get this straight , if I wanna use the 94 trans and engine I should just swap all the harness , and if I use my AOD I can just transfer the injector portion and MAF wiring from the 94 to the 88 harness ? And repin the EEC? A mustang one preferably
