Steering Stabilizer on or off?

I have torn off 3 steering stabilzers on ranch roads since they set so low on the links. Finally just quit replacing them. Does anyone else run without one and do you think it makes a difference in highway handling?

I noticed a difference on the highway when mine was just worn out. I could not imagine what it would feel like with it completely removed.

I am on the fence.

my 00 truck didn't have one.

my current 00 van does.

I know, no help, but I dont think I would add one if it didn't come with one.
but its just me.

My 2000 didn't come with on either, I added a bilstein stabilizer a couple years ago and am real happy with it. I am also running 35" tires so I think there is a bigger need. I used to get bump steer on the bumps when I didn't have one, but now it is much better. I'm not sure how much difference it will make with smaller tires but I know some of those ranch roads can be pretty bumpy. I quess you will have to try it without it and see how it goes!

I have never had one and have run as large as 35" tires without a problem for almost 400K. If you do decide to run without one and are having issues I would speculate that you have issues that the stabilizer was masking suck as worn ball joints, steering box etc.

That's good advice. I have been running without one for several years and the front end is pretty loose on pavement. Had all the front end parts replaced some time ago but it's still an old pickup with a lot of hard offroad miles. Not too bad pulling a gooseneck but a bumper pull keeps you real busy. No sightseeing at all.

My 01 doesn't have one either, been that way since I bought it. Highway driving has never been an issue even towing my toyhauler but I have noticed some bump steer off road but nothing drastic. I learned to drive in and still have my old Jeep CJ5 and the truck is like driving a caddy compared to it

Never had one, and never felt a need to add one.

My 99 4x4 didn't come with one and I don't miss having it. My wife's 2000 4x4 has one and I can't tell the difference between the two. Largest tire I use is 285/75R16.

I would fix the ranch road first. It must be a 4 x 4 trail rather then a road if ur ripping them off.
