Steel Casing?

I'm looking at a new set of tires and have had good luck with Michelins. One of the tires is more expensive and lists the following. Would this be a tougher tire with a steel casing?? I would never run a retread so that part isn't of interest. What I'm interested in is a tire that can hold up to the job of towing like I do, also I don't want flats and don't want to take out my fiberglass fenders. I found a flat on the inside dually and didn't even know it, LOL Scary! It doesn't have any higher weight rating then the others, in fact it lists it a 60K and the other one I'm interested in is 70K. Thanks

Long-Lasting Commercial Tire
Tread compounds specifically developed for commercial applications help tires last longer so your business dollars go farther.Steel-Casing Strength
Steel casing adds strength and allows retreading to greatly extend the life of the tire and keep it on the job.

By what that reads, the steel casing extends the life of the tire by giving it the ability to be recapped. My question would be how long does the tire last before it would need recapped, if you chose to do so. I may be wrong on what I got from reading it though.

After reading it again, I may be wrong on the recapping. By "retreading", they probably mean re-grooving the tire. I've seen it done. There are some videos on youtube of it. That may not be bad.

I just watched a couple youtube video's, I don't think I would ever want to run one but it also looks like it would be a tougher tire, IDK.

Put a set of big truck tires on those and they would last forever on a pickup!

Agreed Gabe, those look sweet Bill!

You bet I do Todd, I'll look like a real trucker then, LOL. I don't think I rode on one tire long but its been sitting for a few weeks and just noticed it. I'll have to pay more attention to the 'inner tire'!!

I should have started this thread with this picture. It was the inner rear dually tire. I would think that if I picked up something that got wedged inbetween the tires, both of them would have been damaged. There isn't a mark on the other tire. I'm assuming I didn't kick up something and when I look at the damage I want to get rid of all the tires for new ones.

I ordered Michelin XPS RIP, hope I don't regret it. They are $360 total more then the other ones I put on the mule so I hope they prove to be extra tough.

I'm no expert Glenn but that looks like sidewall failure. Glad nothing happened to your rig, you or the better half.

Thanks Greg and I agree, sidewall failure. These tires were on the dually when I bought it and the date code is just a little over two years now. Oh well, I'll feel better with a new set.
